Stories of the Prophets: A Journey Through Faith and Wisdom

Below is a collection of short stories, each about one of the major Prophets mentioned in Islam

1. Prophet Adam (AS) آدم The First Human

Found in Surah al-Baqarah, verses 30-39

Prophet Adam (AS) known as “the father of humankind” was created by Allah (SWT) from clay and given life. He was honored above the angels and taught the names of all things. Ibilis, who was jealous of Adam refused to bow down to him was cast out of paradise. Adam and his wife, Hawwa, lived in Jannah until they were tempted by Iblis and ate from the forbidden tree (Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil). Adam And Hawwa confess their sin and beg for forgiveness. Allah forgives them, but He tells them that they must leave the Garden of Eden and live on earth.

Lesson: The story reminds us that we are all human and we are bound to make mistakes. but its a reminder that Allah (Al-Rahim) is the Most Merciful and forgives even the biggest sin when repented sincerely

2. Prophet Idris (Enoch, AS) إدريسThe Climber of the Heavens

Found in Surah Maryam (19) verse 56-57 and Surah Anbiya (21) verse 85

Regarded as either the second or third prophet in Islam, Prophet Idris, known as Enoch in the bible was a wise and righteous man, known for his deep devotion to Allah (SWT) and his knowledge. He was known as the first man who learned how to write with a pen and had knowledge of astrology and mathematics. He spent his life guiding his people to truth and righteousness, reminding them to worship allah and avoid wrongdoing. Allah raised him to the heavens, honoring him in this life and the Hereafter.

Lesson: Knowledge, patience, and righteousness bring a person closer to Allah.

3. Prophet Nuh (Noah, AS) نُوْح The Ark of Faith

Found in Surah 71 (Nuh), sura 11 (Hud), and sura 23 (al-Mu’minun), and many ayats

Allah (SWT) appointed Nuh (AS) as the prophet for his people, so as to guide them to the right path and turn them away from their evil ways. He preached to his people calling them to worship Allah alone but they ignored and mocked him. Allah then instructed Nuh to build an ark, with a small group of believers. When the great flood came, only the small group of believers were saved with him while the unbelievers drowned in the floor, including Nuh’s own son who rejected the message.

Lesson: It reminds us of the great powers of God. This is not to say that God only possesses the powers to destroy and punish; more so, it tells us of God’s Infinite Love, Care and Mercy He has for all mankind, for it is He Who sends His Guidance to every race and every people

4. Prophet Hud (AS) هُوْدٌ‎Warning to the People of ‘Ad

Found in Surah Hud

Hud (AS) was sent by Allah (SWT) to the powerful people of ‘Ad, who were renowned for their physical fitness and towering stature  leading to an aura of arrogance and ignorance. They worshiped Allah alongside serveral other deities whom they considered as gods. Hud was sent to the people to guide them toward monotheism. However the polytheists did not believe his message. A devastating drought from the scorching heat was brought down to the people of Ad which then shifted to a stinging cold, bringing with it a ferocious gale that obliterated the disbelievers, leaving no trace of their existence.

Lesson: Arrogance and pride can lead to destruction.

5. Prophet Salih (AS)  صَالِحٌ The She-Camel of Allah

Found in Surah Al-A’raf

The Thamud people were the successors of the previous community called Ad. The people of Thamud respected Prophet Saleh and were prepared to appoint him as their leader because of his wisdom and virtues. When He was bestowed with prophethood by Allah (SWT) during this period, the people turned on him except for a few people who were touched by the sincerity of his message. The rest demanded for a miracle; a large, wolly, female camel, ten months pregnant, that is able to produce milk for the entire town from the mountains. Salih warned them not to harm the camel but they ignored his warnings and killed the camel. Salih and his followers left town and three days following the grave warning, the skies roared with thunderbolts, followed by severe earthquakes that destroyed the entire tribe and its homeland.

Lesson: Disobeying Allah after seeing clear signs leads to severe consequences.
