Dubai Modest Fashion Week 2021

Dubai Modest Fashion Week 2021, the 7th edition globally and the 3rd edition in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, took place on November 18-19-20, 2021, at the spectacular Rixos Premium Dubai – JBR. During the event, Think Fashion, the DMFW21 organizer, told a story during the event about individuals, modesty, and empowerment.

Coega Sunwear, Lemate, Di’ Gerari, Bahae, Najtags & Ranazone (United Arab Emirates), Homolog, Gold Design, Al Haya Paris (France), Hukka, Munamer (Italy), Surturban, Israel Kasnett (United States), Massodah Shabodien (South Africa), and the Modestcatwalk.com (Global) are only some of the designers and brands who demonstrated unique fashion shows and highlight the diversity of modest fashion. During the 3 days many fashion talk shows were held and global celebrities were hosted as keynote speakers to empower women entrepreneurs and fashion lovers.

Zlem Sahin took to the runway in a shimmering black and red gown by Jordanian designer Zeina Ali to start the evening. Ferda Ekberi’s gold earrings completed the look, and the Modest Fashion Week co-founder also debuted a new look, swapping her golden locks for a brunette mane. As a remixed editon of ‘Bella Ciao’ set the mood, Sahin’s entrance was followed by a collection of white gowns making their way down the runway. Mimya, a Turkish label, presented the looks, which featured a lot of layers, pleats, pussy bows, and feather trims.

There were a few notable firsts at the Dubai Modest Fashion Week. Surturban debuted its unique collection of regal fuchsia and white pieces with edgy elements like black spikes at its headdress and pre-tied turbans exhibit. Neven Elkady’s wedding gown debut featured deconstructed ghutras, traditional Palestinian embroidery ‘tatreez,’ and an intelligent use of lace in an ode to Palestinian heritage.

This time around, modern swimwear brand Coega Sunwear focused on leafy prints, tropical illustrations, and tunics, while Homolog Paris, founded by Emily Cheong, added an elegant twist with its sustainable kaftans embellished with mosaics. Then there were Zeina Ali’s statement pieces, which took a fresh approach to kaftans and gowns with dramatic shoulders and a candy-colored palette.

The modest fashion market has grown to $474 billion dollars. Top global online and offline retail groups also had front-row seats at DMFW21, while they were busy selecting exclusive designers for their respective brands. Entrance to the Dubai Modest Fashion Week 21 event was only available through pre-registration on the show’s website and special invitations.
